While the phrase “Back to School” is normally equated to our children and their excitement or sadness about the upcoming school year, in the Murphy household, this phrase speaks to Mom and Dad too. You see, while the kids are at their schools learning and doing whatever kids do at school all day, Craig and I are hard at work attending college through Liberty University online. Yep, at 53 years old, we’ve finally figured out what we want to be when we grow up! Well, at least Craig has. You see, for me, while I know I want to go into counseling, my mind races with excitement as I decide what type of counseling I should focus on. Women’s counseling, youth counseling, children’s counseling and recently, I’ve had thoughts of counseling women who have found themselves pregnant and are deciding on whether to abort, keep the baby or possibly put their child up for adoption. As some of you may know, adoption is very close to my heart, (that story to be shared at a later date), so counseling a woman in the midst of such a decision, would be very fulfilling. I don’t know! I am hoping that by the end of 2016 (graduation), God will have shown me my career path. In the meantime, I continue to take every psychology class offered, stress over every grade, every paper and the prospect of yet another math class! It may seem as if it’s taken me decades to decide what I wanted to be when I grow up but I look at it this way…The first phase of my adult like was spent and continues to be spent, doing the job I always dreamed of…that of being a mom. Now, in this, what some may call the “Golden Years”, (some…NOT ME!), I am beginning to experience a new side of ME. A me that wants to explore and experience all that I can while I can. That, in itself, is down right exciting!
